Every Corporate needs a letter of resignation when you leave. It is no different with the Church Corporate. Below is a sample resignation letter to smooth the transition:

To whom it may concern,
This letter is my formal resignation from the (your former cult) and it is effective immediately. I hereby withdraw my consent to being treated as a member and I withdraw my consent to being subject to organization rules, policies, beliefs and ‘discipline’. As I am no longer a member, I want my name permanently and completely removed from the membership rolls of your organization and all mailing lists.
I have given this matter considerable thought. I understand what you consider the ‘seriousness’ and the ‘consequences’ of my actions. I am aware that your organization says that my resignation is to ‘leave the body’ and ‘to fall away’, forfeiting my ‘salvation’.
My resignation should be processed immediately. I am not going to be dissuaded nor will I change my mind.
I expect this matter to be handled promptly, with respect and with full confidentiality.
After today, the only contact I want from your organization is a single letter of confirmation to let me know that I am no longer listed as a member of your organization.

Most of us didn’t need a resignation letter, we just left. After 40 years of attendance, when I left, there were no phone calls or letters to ask why. I guess they felt they’d recruit 5 more for one of me so why bother. Besides, they all knew why we were leaving and they didn’t want to hear the truth.
The form is a type of insult to the acog’s. It also supplies a way to leave without confrontation.
Like many others, I just left.
Although I can’t be sure that it happened, I was told years later that some men “from the church” came looking for me. Apparently they said I had done something (like leave) “without asking their permission”.
Asking for “severance pay” (return of uncashed tithe checks, or a refund) would be a nice touch to the letter.
Example letter to local minister:
I hereby disfellowship Gerald Flurry for causing division. Up his, and yours too, spineless lackey.
