If you were looking for a ministry which has the power of a sound mind, you will have to skip Armstrongist ministers and look elsewhere.

Over at The Exit and Support Network is a section of Amazing Statements Made by the Worldwide Church of God Ministers and begins with:

I wrote to WCG headquarters, asking them about a book that was in our church library on husbands. My letter was mailed back to our minister who later pulled out the letter during his sermon and began to read it out loud to the congregation, making comical comments such as: “There are always going to be members who have to write headquarters to see if the ministers have their heads screwed on right.”

The ministers don’t have their heads screwed on right and will screw up your head if you listen to them.

Feel free to leave your own experiences in the comments.

  1. How can any WCG minister keep their head on when they perceive that the lay members are to a terrible degree under their power and control? They see the members are in their control. What would stop them from abusing their authority? Once they see that they can do what they want and perceive that they will not be disciplined by those above them they can do what they want. Unfortunately.

  2. 8. I was counseling with the assistant minister because my husband, who had been baptized a few years prior, was getting away from keeping the Law and I was quite concerned. After telling this assistant that “he [my husband] did change after baptism” he told me, “Even alcoholics can change.” Then he added, “Forget about him. God is working with you.”

This is a wife who used the “church” to control her husband. My ex did that also. When I told her ‘fuck the church’ she knew the gig was up and filed for divorce. Thank gauud!

    1. Ask headquarters a question. They will not respond to you because they believe you SHOULD already have your answer. Instead, they tell the minister that he is not doing his job. headquarters:”Some sheep are trying to get out of the pen that you were hired to manage!Fix it! That is what we are paying you for! If you still can’t fix it, we will find someone who can!”

Asshat says:“There are always going to be members who have to write headquarters to see if the ministers have their heads screwed on right.”

Not if the mini-steer keeps doing that, which is exactly what they truly want, to not be bothered. Shameful.

“This is a wife who used the “church” to control her husband.”

I’m confused? If that was her sole motivation, I think the church would have backed her up 100%.

  3. Did you read this one James? It is from the link.

Former Minister’s Wife Needs to Leave it All Behind:

    December 16, 2002

When I think of everything I could say, the story I could tell, the harm done to me, to my children, and members of the WCG, I just want to cry. I spent a lot of time on another website, but it was too anti-God and I need God in my life. So I was thankful to find this web site. I was the gullible one, ripe pickings for a cult when young and now need to leave it all behind.

It must have been the Painful Truth that some can’t handle.

  4. Our minister made an announcement one week (and it may have only been once) that correspondence to HQ should be done through Mr – (our eldest elder). Around the same time, we were offered booklets of transfer slips so we could transfer our money straight to HQ’s bank. These requests were, we were told, for our convenience – save money (postage stamp) and time (wait for the next service and walking to the bank rather than walking to the mail box.)
The same minister once announced that someone told him a member claimed something he had said was “just his opinion”. He admitted that it was possible that something could have been own his opinion, but if he quoted the Bible, it was not just his opinion. True, not his opinion, but his interpretation – or rather, HWA’s interpretation.
