But Wallis wasn’t done there. In a preview clip, he goes on to claim that America isn’t mentioned in the Bible as having a “special” or unique place.
“Where in the Bible is there a special place for America?,” he asks. “Where do we get that that’s bad theology…just bad theology.”
And a Gentile nation at that.
It’s a double-edged sword: On one hand, the United States could never expect special blessings from God as His people (and the Presidents could not say “God Bless America” because they have NO inherent right to do so); on the other hand, God suffers from lowered expectations — after all, what can you expect from Gentiles?
It should be noted that Islam is growing rapidly in the United States and every once in a while, some court or another will invoke Sharia Law. Even if the Founding Fathers intended (they didn’t) the United States to be a Christian nations, we’ve had centuries to let our options lapse.
What we really need right now is for another Kate Smith show up and sing “God Bless America”, because, amazingly enough, every time she sang for the opening sports team game, they won! Who can argue with success?

And anyway… Is our current President a Christian?
I suspect that President Obama is a Christian about like the average American. He pays it lip service, but I personally think he is pretty much a free thinker. Those who claim he’s a Muslim don’t know what they are talking about. Too bad he can’t come out and say some of the things I’m sure he’d like to say. Only a Jefferson, Madison or Lincoln could safely do that before religion kidnapped America.
Is America a Christian nation? The christians point to Romans 13:
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
“Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God…”
If that is so, the the US CANNOT be a christian nation, since it is based on the right of the people to revolt if they find the government to be oppressive. “We hold these truths to be self evident…”
Revolution, to the King of England, “ordained of God”, was evil, treason to be punished, and by Romans 13:1-2, rightly so.
Douglas mentioned Lincoln, above. Even Linoln, in his most famous address, pointed NOT to the constitution for his authority, but to the Declaration of Independence!
“Fourscore and seve n years ago” he began, “our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”.
“Fourscore and seven” from the year 1863 will leave us at 1776, not 1789. The nation began, said Lincoln, with the profession of that ideal.
But that ideal was exactly the opposite of Romans 13:1-2! The onstitution prclaims no ideals. “We the people, in order to form a more perfect union…etc”. The constitution did no more than take care of business once formed. It was designed to be limited, and to not interfere with religious ideals. The common law recognized that escaped slaves were to be allowed to be free, along with Deuteronomy 23:15-16. The US Constitution had what was called the fugitive slave clause in Article 4. Slaves must be returned to their master. George Mason refused to sign the constitution for two basic reasons: first, it had no Bill of Rights. Second, he blasted the founders on the fact that the constitution neither sanctioned slavery nor prohibited it, but simply let it be. He wartned his colleagues that ‘Almighty God” would not tolerate such things, and we would someday pay. The US, as the founders well knew, COULD NOT be a christian nation, because there would have been no United States. The South would have simply rejected such a union. Lin coln had little choice but to declare the new nation beginning in 1776, not 1789. Our government was not and could not have been christian in a biblical sense.
