Memorial Day 2016

President Barack Obama repeated the now infamous words of George W. Bush, declaring: “We are at war…” Yes, and we have been, ever since 1776.

The U.S. was born out of ethnic cleansing, a violent process that had started long before 1776 and would not be complete until 1900.  In other words, more than half of America’s existence (about 53%) has been marked by the active process of ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population, which was ultimately all but destroyed.

Below, Danios (from a blog dated December 20, 2011) has reproduced a year-by-year timeline of America’s wars, which reveals something quite interesting: since the United States was founded in 1776, she has been at war during 214 out of her 235 calendar years of existence.  In other words, there were only 21 calendar years in which the U.S. did not wage any wars.

To put this in perspective:

* Pick any year since 1776 and there is about a 91% chance that America was involved in some war during that calendar year.

* No U.S. president truly qualifies as a peacetime president.  Instead, all U.S. presidents can technically be considered “war presidents.”

* The U.S. has never gone a decade without war.

* The only time the U.S. went five years without war (1935-40) was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression.

It should be noted that American plans to dominate the Middle East date back to at least the end of World War II, when it was decided that the region was of critical strategic value. Now that the U.S. has followed through on this plan, do you think “radical Islam” is really “an existential threat” just as American Indians were “fierce savages” waging “an exterminating war” against the “peaceful inhabitants” of the United States; or how Mexicans were “violent” and “terrorized” people; or how Central Americans were “dangerous bandits”? The rampant Islamophobia that abounds today is part of a long tradition of vilifying, Other-izing, and dehumanizing the indigenous populations of lands that need to controlled.

Happy Memorial day…

  1. Hope everyone is having a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. Mine certainly got off to a vastly different start from what I’d visualized!

While doing my laundry on Saturday A.M. I suddenly heard some gurgling noises coming from the shower in the Master Bedroom. It was backfilling from the drain. And in checking the front bathroom, it was flooded! If this ever happens to you, know that your house’s sewer line is plugged.

After cleaning up the water with a wet-dry shop vac, I pulled the toilet at the front of the house, to gain access to the sewer pipe. A 50′ drain snake was easily threaded down the hole, and came back up clean. Next, I poured about 2 litres of industrial drain cleaner down the line, and it failed to dislodge whatever was blocking. Meanwhile, I’m running my laundry water out a back window just to get the laundry done, and visiting neighborhood businesses to take the occasional crap.

This morning, I poured 6 litres of the same lye based drain cleaner directly down the hole that the toilet bolts to, and let it soak in for about 6 hours. Just emptied an entire bathtub of water, and all is flowing freely again! Hallelujah! Just so happy. George Brazil would have been expensive.

Hope everyone else’s Memorial Day weekend is not getting off to a crappy (literally) start as mine did!

    1. Lol, I just got done complaining in a sarcastic grumpy reply! No more grumpy cat for you. Glad you didn’t have to use a roto-rooter, but I would still plan for it anyway because it could be tree roots.

  2. Wow! What a list!
Don’t have time to look in to all of that now, but I’ll share what I think I already know.

    What wars were worth fighting?
    IMHO
    The American Revolutionary War
Some of the wars with Mexico(Spain’s Puppet)
    American Civil War
The loans we made to Europe for WW1 were justifiable, but NOT the defrauding of the american people!
WW2 for stopping Hitler and oppressive neighbors, and same as above.
“The only time the U.S. went five years without war (1935-40) was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression.”

During that period the american people had elected a government that restored prices to the proper parity level which protected our economy from debt. Funny thing is, WW2 happens, since then, our government and private sector is driven almost solely by debt.

WW3 if and only if it serves the purpose of The American Revolutionary War!

    America celebragtes !

ps i chose not to fix the misspelling 😉

    1. ‘Funny thing is, WW2 happens, since then, our government and private sector is driven almost solely by debt.’

That’s why war is a racket.

  3. It has been said that World War II was what finally elevated us from the Great Depression. However, WWII also spelled the decline of the British Empire, as well as other of the European nations that largely lost their former stature after the war.

As goes the original article, yes, the USA had some profound birth defects. No way should Native Americans or African Americans been treated the way they were. It would also be more productive for the world economy if diplomacy, rather than destructive wars, could resolve international geopolitical issues. Unfortunately, often one side makes that impossible or impractical, and if an evil or the stakes are too high, war is justifiable and worthwhile via cost-benefit analysis.

Tree roots? Gosh, I hope not. I’m betting it was an accumulation of the the clumps of cat litter that I flushed down the toilet over the past several years. The sewer line does pass under a palm tree, though.

    BB

    1. Cat litter? don’t do that. That is almost as bad as oil-based paint and grease. I grew up with an older sister who did shit like that on purpose, because she knew that I would have to be the one to fix it. After I finally got her to stop it, she moved on to toddler sandboxes. Literally, she would wash the sandboxes in the basement sink instead of rinsing them out with the hose on the grass.
